Pre-natal & Post-natal classes – Frequently Asked Questions

Is Pilates safe during pregnancy?

Yes — Pilates is one of the most recommended forms of exercise during pregnancy. Our Prenatal Pilates classes at TLAD in Southwark are specifically designed for pregnant women, focusing on safe core strengthening, pelvic floor work, and breathing techniques. We recommend getting GP clearance before joining, especially after your 12-week scan.

When can I start postnatal Pilates after giving birth?

For a vaginal birth, most women can start gentle postnatal Pilates from around 6 weeks postpartum. After a C-section, we recommend waiting approximately 10–12 weeks. Always check with your GP or midwife before returning to exercise. Our postnatal classes near London Bridge start gently and progress at your pace.

Do I need a GP referral to attend?

We don't require a formal referral, but we do ask that you have clearance from your GP or midwife before joining our prenatal or postnatal classes. This is standard practice for all pre and postnatal fitness classes and ensures your safety.

Can I bring my baby to class?

Absolutely! Our Mama & Baby Pilates class is designed for you to bring your little one along. Babies are welcome from newborn up to the crawling stage. The class is fully baby-friendly — feeding, napping, and happy noises are all part of it.

I've never done Pilates before — can I still join?

Yes — our classes are suitable for complete beginners. The instructor adapts every exercise to your level and trimester, so you'll always feel comfortable and supported. Many of our members start Pilates for the first time during pregnancy.

What should I bring to class?

Wear comfortable clothing you can move in. We provide mats, but you're welcome to bring your own. For Mama & Baby classes, bring whatever your baby needs (changing mat, blanket, bottle). The studio is on Copperfield Street, SE1 — a 3-minute walk from Borough station.
