Being a new mum is a beautiful experience, but it is also exhausting. Between feeding, changing, and soothing your little one, it can feel impossible to find an hour just for yourself.

We know that many mums want to get back into fitness but struggle to find childcare. You should not have to choose between looking after your baby and taking care of your own body.

Strong Mama class, postnatal fitness at TLAD in Southwark

That is why we have created a dedicated schedule of baby-friendly exercise classes right here in Southwark. You can bring your baby along, move your body, and meet other lovely local mums in a safe, completely judgment-free space.

Here is a guide to the baby-friendly classes we offer and what you can expect.

Mama & Baby Pilates: Gentle and Restorative

Mama & Baby pilates, postnatal fitness, TLAD in Southwark

After having a baby, your body needs gentle, careful movement to heal. Mama & Baby Pilates is the perfect way to start exercising again.

This class is specifically designed to help you rebuild your core strength and support your pelvic floor. The exercises are slow, mindful, and very safe for postpartum bodies.

Your baby rests on a mat right next to you. Sometimes, we even incorporate them into the gentle movements! If your baby cries, needs a feed, or needs a cuddle, that is completely fine. Our studio is a relaxed environment, and everyone understands.

Strong Mama: For Building True Strength

As your baby grows, they get heavier! You need real physical strength to carry a toddler, pick up toys, and manage a pushchair.

Our Strong Mama class is a wonderful step up from gentle Pilates. It incorporates resistance bands and light weights to help you build functional strength. It gives you that lovely, deep muscle burn, but it remains low-impact to protect your joints.

You can bring your older babies and toddlers to this class. They can play safely nearby while you focus on getting stronger.

Baby-Wearing Dance Fitness: Joyful Movement

After baby-wearing dance fitness class at TLAD in Southwark

If you miss the energy of a fun cardio class like Zumba, you will love our Baby-Wearing Dance Fitness class.

In this class, you wear your baby in a secure, comfortable sling or carrier. We then guide you through simple, joyful dance steps to uplifting music.

The gentle bouncing movement is incredibly soothing for babies. In fact, most babies fall asleep within the first ten minutes! For mums, it is a fantastic way to get your heart rate up, release stress, and feel a surge of happy endorphins.

The Power of Community

One of the hardest parts of being a new mum is feeling isolated. Spending time at home with a baby can sometimes feel lonely.

Our baby-friendly classes are about much more than just fitness. They are a wonderful way to connect with a community of mums who are going through the exact same things as you. It is a space where you can share advice, celebrate small wins, and feel supported.

According to the NHS guidelines for postpartum health, taking time to exercise and socialise is incredibly important for a mother's mental wellbeing. At our studio, you get to do both at the same time.

Frequently Asked Questions

When can I start exercising after having a baby?

You should always wait until you have had your 6-to-8-week postnatal check with your doctor before starting any exercise classes. Once your doctor says it is safe, our Mama & Baby Pilates is the best place to begin.

Do I need any previous experience?

No, not at all! Our baby-friendly classes are designed for all fitness levels. Our caring instructors will always offer gentle modifications if you need them.

What happens if my baby cries during the class?

Please do not worry! Babies cry, and everyone in the room understands. You are always welcome to stop exercising to feed, change, or comfort your baby at any point during the class.

What should I wear?

Wear comfortable workout clothes that allow you to move freely. If you are doing Mama & Baby Pilates, you will be in bare feet or grip socks. For Baby-Wearing Dance, please wear supportive trainers.
